Meet Our Trainers:
Jane Shaw, owner and director of Thumbs Up Riding Club. . . That’s me. I have been in the business of developing partnerships between horses and riders for many years. My first career was as a high school and adult education English teacher. Throughout my classroom years, I always worked for professional trainers especially since I had the same hours as many of the riding students. I helped ride the horses, give the lessons and besides showing, I would also help the trainer and the other students at the horse show. Without actually planning on becoming a riding instructor myself, I put in quite a good number of years as an apprentice and learned the ins and outs of training horses and riders.
To me the skills of getting on and riding a horse are just a small part of the sport. Perhaps because of my background, I want to teach the rider HORSEMANSHIP as well as riding skills. Horsemanship means that the rider has an understanding of what goes on in the horse’s head, the rider wants to learn about and advance the health and well-being of the horse, the rider knows and accepts certain responsibilities to the sentient being(the horse), and the rider learns that a good work ethic is necessary.
I want to make riding safe and enjoyable-----to BOTH horse and rider, and I have an excellent safety record. In addition to training and instructing, I also enjoy judging and going to horse shows. This coming year,2012, Aryn Jacque will be riding and helping to develop our young horses and ponies into more competitive show horses. We have a show schedule planned with affordability being an important consideration. We look forward to having you come ride with us. Information: 818-951–1777.
